Energize ​your interest in software development and start upskilling. Explore opportunities for both the novice and experienced coder to learn, network, and get inspired. 
There will be speaking sessions, three hands-on sessions, and informational tables set up in the atrium.

Speaker Sessions (No Registration Needed):

Hands-On Sessions (Registration Required):

1. App Creation for the Absolute Beginner  This class is now full and no longer accepting registrations.
Adults and Teens, Ages 13+
1:00 to 2:00pm – McCallum Room, 4th floor

Learn how to create an fully functional app ready for the Google Play store using MIT’s App Inventor 2. This class is designed for those with no previous coding experience. Using the block style drag and drop code editor, you will not only be able to build sophisticated apps but also build coding concepts applicable across all computer languages.

  • Participants will need a Google Account and to know their login information.
  • If you have an Android tablet or phone, you are encouraged to bring it to the class (even if you don’t bring your laptop).
  • You are encouraged to bring your own laptop.

2. Python for First Time Coders  This class is now full and no longer accepting registrations.
Adults and Teens, Ages 13+
2:00 to 3:00pm – McCallum Room, 4th floor

In this class we will use Python to build a simple application perfect for the first time coder. We will also connect users with additional learning options including using your Python skills to explore Artificial Intelligence.

  • Participants are welcome to bring their own laptop.
    • Install Python from Python.org/downloads.

 

3. Machine Learning Made Simple   This class is now full and no longer accepting registrations.
Adults and Teens, Ages 13+
3:00 to 4:00pm – McCallum Room, 4th floor

In this hands on class participants will connect with IBM’s Watson machine learning capabilities to build an intelligent chatbot. Taking advantage of some simplified interfaces will allow non-coders to see how machine learning works and how it can be applied across a variety of applications.

  • Participants are welcome to bring their own laptop.
    • Installing the Google Chrome browser is recommended.
