Databases & Reference Services
If you have a library card, try starting your research with some of these great databases and reference services.  You'll find live online help, tons of reference sources like dictionaries, encyclopedias, and atlases, and thousands of periodical articles selected just for you.  In most cases, you'll need your library card number and you pin number to use these.  If you forget your pin, or a special username and password are required, ask the library staff for help.

 
The Answer Zone
The Answer Zone is a live reference service via the Internet.  Via a chat screen, library staff is available to assist you in using online resources, to find materials in the catalog, or to be your tour guide if you get lost on the information superhighway.

 
Ebsco Student Research Center

Ebsco resources selected especially for youth in grades 6-12.  Find full-text articles from hundreds of popular resources.  Ebsco Student Research Center also includes a dictionary, encyclopedia, and image collection, as well as a Teacher Resources section for educators.  Available through Texshare (Texshare Username & Password required if accessing from home.)

 
Gale Literature Resource Center

Biographies, bibliographies, and critical analyses of noted authors.  Available through Texshare (Texshare Username & Password required if accessing from home.)

 
History Database Center
History Database Center provides access to three databases: American History Online, World History, and Ancient History & Culture. American History Online is a comprehensive and authoritative reference to the most important individuals, events, and topics in United States history. World History Online covers the important civilizations and cultures of world history from prehistoric times through the modern era. Ancient History & Culture gives a balanced, global view of the ancient world as it explores six ancient centers of civilization - Africa, Egypt, Greece, Rome, Mesoamerica, and Mesopotamia.

 
Science Online

Science Online is a complete reference database containing thousands of entries covering animal anatomy, anthropology and archaeology, astronomy and space technology, atomic physics, biochemistry, biology, botany, chemistry, computer science, earth science, environmental science, general science, genetics, health and medicine, human natomy and physiology, marine science, physics, and weather and climate. These Diagrams, Definitions, Biographies, Essays, and Experiments are cross-referenced through hyperlinks and are searchable by keyword, topic, and year. In addition, the site includes a Timeline dating from the big bang to the present, Web Links to other science Web sites, and Further Information.

 
World Book Online
Contains all of the articles from the print version of World Book Encyclopedia plus several unique features including photos, sounds, illustrations, maps, and 360-degree views, an up-to-date full-color atlas of the world, approximately 13,000 historical articles from past World Book Year Book volumes, summaries of important current events, as well as links to relevant World Book articles and authoritative, editor-selected Web sites, and a dictionary that contains more than 248,000 definitions.  (World Book Username & Password required if accessing from home.)
