Frequently Asked Questions

How are winners chosen?

Youth librarians read each entry and select 20-30 finalists from each age division. The finalists’ entries are then sent to this year’s judge, Catherine L'Herisson. She will select two equal winners from each age category for a total of twelve equal winners. There is no first or second place.

What are the prizes?

Winners will be invited to attend a special reception in their honor where they will receive a certificate and recognition from the community. Winners will also receive a keepsake book containing all the winning poems and will have the opportunity to read their poem at the reception (not required).

Will my poem be returned to me?

Once the poem is submitted to us, we cannot return it. Please make copies of your poem and do not send the original.

Will I be notified if I’ve won?

The library will contact you via the email address you provide.  If a valid email address isn’t provided, we will be unable to contact you. ONLY WINNERS will be notified via email by April 30, 2019. An invitation to the reception will be emailed separately.

How many poems can I submit?

As many as you want; however, each poem submitted must have an attached entry form with COMPLETE contact information.  No bulk submissions. Poems submitted without an entry form attached will be automatically disqualified.
